At Nicomekl Elementary, the ELL program supports children from Kindergarten to Grade 5. This year there are approximately one hundred and twenty students at the school in the ELL Program. The ELL Program supports students who speak a different language other than English.

The ELL teachers conduct assessments, review the results with school personnel, make appropriate program recommendations and offer direct instruction to ELL students.

They also provide integration techniques and selected instructional materials to classroom teachers.
Assistance for ELL students requires attention to language proficiency, intellectual development and citizenship.
Students leave regular classrooms a few times during the week to work in small groups.

Individualized or adapted programs to aid comprehension are part of the ELL student’s daily routine.
ELL students are placed in age-appropriate classrooms. Assessment of English proficiency results in recommendations for the type and intensity of support required.
